This is not a definitive list, its my list. If you have a list, you can email me yours and i’ll post the top 5. I’m not really a genre snob but I am a music snob. Actually, I’m pretty much an everything snob so consider yourself warned…….At least I’m consistent.
Kingdom by Devin Townsend w/ Anneke van Giersbergen at The Roundhouse in London on October 27, 2012
I appreciate the fact that they’re smiling while they perform. I can’t get enough of these two so here’s another video from the same show.
Gojira – The Gift Of Guilt (Live at Brixton Academy, London) 2013
These guys put 90% of the current crop of metal bands to shame. Mario Duplantier is an absolute beast on drums. Enjoy
Mike Dawes – Scarlet by Periphery
Here’s the original for comparison and he also pulls of One by Metallica! Periphery are one of my favourite bands at the moment so finding this was a joy. Misha even posted that he loves this version. If you can stomach facing the fact that you’ll never be as good of a guitar player as Mike, check out his other stuff, its incredible. Honorable mention, Jon Gomm – Passionflower.
Subway performer stuns crowd with Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide”- Chicago, Il- Blue Line, Washington S
Wow, just wow. He name is Ashley Stevenson/Slim Freedom and she’s got a pretty powerful voice and interesting guitar technique. She does a cool rendition of the Stone’s Wild Horses.
Phoebe Bridgers – Motion Sickness (Live on KEXP)
I kind of just stumbled on her and really enjoyed this performance. I got a kick out of the drummer making stinkface and leaning back. Reminds me of a guy I know, Ricky. Anyways, she also does a duet with Noah Gunderson that is incredible. If you’re brave enough to experience a beauty and solemnness like no other, check it out here.
